Todays unexpected Google PageRank update. New pageranks for September 08 |
If you haven’t noticed already, Google has just updated it PageRank for September 2008! I am happy to say that my main website, ReadySetConnect has gone up a rank from PR4 to PR5. I am also pleased to say that the PageRank of the web hosting blogs stayed at PR4. I was actually expecting it to drop due to the fact that I enabled do-follow for comment links.
Every time Google updates PageRank, I learn something new. During the update before last (August 08) I was really mad because my PageRank of my main site dropped form PR5 to PR4. I really got my hopes up while waiting for the August update - I thought for sure that it was going to increase to PR6 instead of drop. Before the update I was working hard every to nab as many links as I could - from PR0 to PR7. Then the update came and my whole PageRank world came crashing down. That is when I stopped caring about gaming my site’s PageRank. I found out that day that Google is insanely good at analyzing websites and they can tell very quickly when your website is getting some abnormal attention.
The great thing about not worrying about PageRank is that you don’t build up expectations only to be let down. When I noticed today that I moved back up to PR5 I was surprised and happy because I was not expecting it nor did I even care about PageRank at that point.
All I can say to anyone who experienced a PR drop is to try and not worry too much about it. Try to keep in mind that even though your PR may have lowered, it doesn’t mean you will get less traffic from the search engines. Even when my main site went from PR5 down to 4, my search engine referral traffic stayed the exact same. PageRank is just a number, and not how valuable your site is. I also think that the more you try and game your PageRank, the worse off your website rank will be. Just build back links to your website naturally and slowly. I believe this is the key. If you all the sudden start getting these awesome high PR links out of nowhere, Google will start to get suspicious because it is not a normal thing for this to happen.
Just keep working at it and don’t get discouraged. I know that I was when I dropped rank but just remember you can only go up from there. Things could be worse you know -Atleast you didn’t get banned!

this pr update happens to be in quite quick interval & my blog has regained its status to pr2
i dont think making comments do-follow will drop pr. it passes the google juice to other backlinked sites but its own pr doesnt get affected.

Man to think I just launched my website, http://www.puredezigner.com back in the middle of July 2008. I remember reading about the PR updates that were taking place at the end of the July, that’s when I was thinking to myself, man 3-6 months before the next update. But when I check my Alexa stat this evening I noticed something else. I just now finally had an update to my PR, From PR0 to PR3! It’s a simple website based on CSS and XHTML validated web projects I have in my portfolio, non the less, I am very happy about this update to my first ever SEO efforts in web. I’d love to see examples and reports on how your current SEO efforts are going and possible results from from the latest Google PR update, please share your updates with us?
Thanks,
Curtis

Well, let me be completely honest with you - I am here only because of do-follow, but I’ve really read two articles so far and do not intend to spam your site.
I think do-follow is good for any blog, well after installing Akismet or something, because this gives your blog fresh content from the real comments and the big G likes to see updated content, well not as much as the completely new one, but the comments count, you may trust me.

KMK,
The reason I turned this into a do-follow blog is to encourage people to comment on the articles. I know very well that a lot of my readers are here only for the text links. But hey, as long as they are reading the articles and responding with a comment that remotely looks like they spent time crafting, I have no problem giving them the text link. After all, they are updating my page for me and also viewing some of my ads in the process. It’s a win-win situation for both parties.
I DO have a problem granting a text link if the reply is only a sentence long and has no evidence that they even read my post. Those type of comments + obvious SPAM are deleted instantly.

Gee, my PR dropped..again! It’s definitely not fun to know, but thanks for your encouraging article, I hope it’s only going up in future.

Congratulations on your PR5 for this update. It is always great to see unexpected good results. And from the other side, it is same way bad to see bad unexpected results. That’s the reason why you are correct not to overload yourself with PR importance. It can be time consuming, and can not get any results at all.

I also noticed my PR drop from 5 to 4 and was very unhappy to see that. Been working pretty hard on inbound links that make sense though those are hard to find. What torques me is a company I hate is buying links and is also PR4. Very disappointing to expect a bump up and get knocked with a bump down. But as has been pointed out, no change in page position that I can see.
By the way, all the 3rd party PR list tools such as http://www.pageranktool.net/ are not working - none of them. All returning PR0 for all sites.

PR Updates happen every so often and its always nice to see an unexpected change. Rather funny that your PR went down when you tried link building and then you stopped caring and it went back up again.

The update did come at a surprise. I think they’ll be another one before the end of the year so good luck to everyone.

Well there is no change in my website’s pr. Can you please let me know whether high pr websites get high traffic form the search engine. Or this is just a number which tells the popularity of your website?
Thanks

I find it interesting how often (or not often) Google updates their PR. I used to be addicted to buying links from places like Text Link Brokers, until I realized that Google could tell I was buying PR 7 and PR 8 links! I got smart and started doing article syndication. That being said, one of my new sites, http://www.corbinmarcuscompany.com just went live. I’m syndicating content out trying to get it moving with Google and Yahoo.

I do not know if Google updates the pagerank, but I already has over 1 years with a PR4, every time Google does not put it more difficult to attract visitors to our site, Google wants all the web traffic for them, is not just be left to compete and I am trying to get by with Google Adsense.Pero really earn a pittance if you have it 5 to attract more visitors.
Greetings.
